Concrete shells are used to make in-ground swimming pools. They have been coated with a Portland cement based material called "plaster" which seals and protects the shell. Many plasters are coated with epoxy or paint. The plaster can also act as a substrate for tiles.
Plaster is made from water, marble sand and limestone or white cement. You apply it to your pool with a flat, rounded-edge trowel. You can dye it to change the color of your pool.
The cost of materials is often significantly higher than labor costs. You can end up paying anywhere from $1,000 for basic plaster to more than $50,000 for designer tiling.
