A pool's waterline is usually tiled. But ceramic, porcelain or stone tiles and glass tile can be used over any surface. The tile is laid over the plaster the same way it would in a bathroom. Smaller tiles and larger individual tiles are glued with thinset to the plaster substrate.

You can either scrape off some chips and have them tested at your local paint store, or send them to Ramuc. Acrylic pool paints are $50 per gallon and epoxy is $100 or more. One coat should cover 100 square feet with one gallon.

Some pools might require chemical treatment or a chemical wash in order to clean the surface. You can use a sandblaster, or chisel to remove the concrete underneath. This will ensure that the new material stays in place. One area of the pool should be inspected at a given time. This can take up three days depending on how big your pool is.
